Mum Knows Best: 10 Top Life Tips

In celebration of Mother’s Day, I wrote an article for “WeLoveDates.com” about the “11 Love Lessons I Learnt From My Mum” which you can read here. This got me thinking about the other things my Mum has taught me. She always gives great life advice, so here are 10 of her best pearls of wisdom:

1) Don’t Rely On Other People For Your Own Happiness
People change and some will let you down, so you should never rely on others for your happiness, instead be happy within yourself.

2) If You Want Something Badly Enough, You Can Achieve It
Focus on your goals and never doubt yourself. If you want something badly enough, it’ll come to you. Concentrate on achieving your dreams, and with hard work and focus, you will get there.

3) The Funniest Put Down
When a guy is pestering you and asks for your phone number, this is what to say: “Have you got a pen?” “Yes…” “Well get back into it before the farmer misses you!”

4) Before An Exam/Interview/Deadline – Eat a piece of Chocolate and A Banana
This method always works for me. Chocolate is an energy food and the caffeine content helps you concentrate. Bananas are packed with potassium so will not only keep energy levels up, but will boost serotonin levels to keep you happy and focussed.

5) Treat Other People How You Wish to be Treated Yourself
Always treat other people with kindness and respect – no matter what walk of life they are from. No one should be treated as if they are inferior to you.

6) Home Is Always Home
Follow your dreams, travel and be independent – but no matter where you are in the world, always remember that home will always be home and you can always come back.

7) Your Time Is The Most Precious Gift You Can Give Anyone
Don’t ever underestimate the importance of giving people your time to show that you care.

8) Listen To Other People’s Problems
Other people’s problems may seem insignificant to you, but to them they are a big deal and sometimes all another person needs is for you to reassure them that things aren’t the end of the world. Be a good listener and be there for your friends in their time of need.

9) Random Skills – Learn to Tie A Windsor Knot
Learn how to tie a proper Windsor knot – it may seem like ridiculous advice, but a lot of men have no idea how to tie a proper knot on their neck tie.

10) Don’t Settle Down Just Because Those Around You Have
It’s better to be patient and wait for the right person, than to rush into a relationship with someone you’re not 100% sure about. When you meet the right person, you’ll know.

With every new life situation, my Mum always has some great advice. So Happy Mother’s Day to my wonderful Mum – the most loving, wise, caring, perceptive and all-round amazing woman I know.
